Objectives of the Integrated Sports Science Course and the Budo Course

To achieve our educational goals, the National Institute of Fitness and Sports offers the Integrated Sports Science Course and the Budo Course in the School of Physical Education. We provide three programs (flexible courses) within the courses, as shown in the following diagram, to allow students to pursue studies in their desired field of specialization.

Integrated Sports Science Course

The objective of the Integrated Sports Science Course is to educate students in the fundamental scientific knowledge surrounding physical education and health promotion,together with the skills to put this knowledge into practice. Through studies of theory and practice, students in this course will acquire, expertise in the areas of competitive sports, lifelong sports participation, and health promotion. The course aims to develop a sense of citizenship and a practical and creative mindset so thatthey can adapt to the changes taking place in the international community.

Classes for Sports Coaching Majors

This program aims to develop coaches who are able to enhance the competitive abilities of top athletes and provide instruction to both junior-and top-level athletes.

Classes for Lifelong Sports Majors

This program aims to train students to provide fitness leadership, and possess the necessary skills to develop training programs and to operate and manage facilities such as sports clubs.

Budo Course

The objective of the Budo Course is to educate students in the fundamental scientific knowledge surrounding physical education and health promotion, together with the skills to put this knowledge into practice. Through studies on the traditional training method called “keiko”, students will acquire the spirit and techniques of Budo, especially those of judo and kendo, which have been passed down through generations as a culture of physical exercise originating in Japan, and which are widely known today as competitive sports. The course will enable students to uphold the spirit of Budo and develop a sense of citizenship and a practical and creative mindset so that they can adapt to the changes taking place in the international community.

Classes for Budo Coaching Majors

Through traditional training methodology, this program aims to educate students in the traditional concepts of “kokoro” (spirit) and “waza” (techniques) of Budo so that they can provide practical instruction in Budo performance.
