Structure of our education and research departments

The following three departments were created to help students engage in responsive and flexible inter-curricular activities alongside the pursuit of their studies.

Department of Performance and Coaching Studies for Sports and Budo

The Department of Performance and Coaching Studies for Sports and Budo aims to educate and impart physical knowledge and challenge human limitations in the fields of sports and martial arts. To that end, we have conceived a theory of physical exercise theory, training, practice, and coaching theory, and theory surrounding the practical and integral transfer of physical knowledge. Furthermore, we have developed advanced and versatile teaching methods and instructor training systems to facilitate this knowledge. 

Faculty of Sports and Life ScienceDepartment

The Faculty of Sports and Life Science Department targets the exploration of how the systems of the human body adapt to exercise and physiological environments. To this end, the department employs experiments and methodologies from the research fields of medicine, physiology, biomechanics, health sciences, among others. The research is applied to study the effects of sporting activities, prolonged training, and aging on the body’s biological functions, from the cellular level to tissues and organs. The department also provides education and training for the development of specialists who can solve a diversity of natural science problems related to sports activities and life/health science.

Faculty of Sports Humanities and Applied Social Science Department

The objective of this department is to encourage Japanese citizens to achieve an active sporting life through promoting lifelong sports, competitive sports and healthy lifestyle. To this end, the department studies the meaning and value of sport and health, and the popularization and management of sporting activities, from a humanities and applied social sciences perspective. It also provides education and training for the development of specialists with rich skills who can both theoretically and practically plan, manage and promote sporting life.
